Here is the second draft of my song “haircut.” I recorded this at the studio at JU. Listen closely to the vocals, you can hear when I cut out the parts when I wasn’t singing because all of the hiss and noise cuts out. (around 50 seconds) This is just another scratch take and I tried some new things with the acoustic guitar part in the intro. I’d like to do a similar arrangement but add the full band after this section. I’d rather do it all in one take so it sounds natural, rather than piecing together two separate takes.
I also want to add some synth parts that I had in mind but I’m going to wait until I hear the “full band” version and see where I want to add it. I need to spend more time on my vocal takes because I don’t want to do any pitch correction, I’d rather get it good enough on the take.
I used the ribbon mic for the vocals which was interesting. It was a smoother sound and didn’t project the articulate high end that other mics tend to produce. I also used the KM184 on the classical guitar which sounded great, but there was just a TON of noise and hiss in all of the channels. Welcome to the JU studio.
I tried something new on this draft where I did a few takes of me just patting a rhythm on my legs. I think I’ll keep this in the final version, because this makes the intro have a little bit more motion.
