I like the song! I think you could take some time mixing it, some things need to be compressed and balanced evenly, sometimes the piano and vocals peak out of the mix. Also the transition to the chorus seemed unexpected, I think it could be a little cleaner.
You’ve got a transition in there right after the lyrics cut out for the first time that I think you could polish up; it sounds slightly empty and the piano could definitely be brought out there. I dig the sound you put on the vocals. Experiment with motion outside of the piano; you seem most comfortable there but I think you could do to make more of some of the other sections. I like the backing you’ve got going on and I think a more balanced mix would really do a lot for you. Diggin’ the vibes.
Honestly, you were just shy with the vocals. Theyre not nearly as bad as you think. There were really insteresting moments. The orchestral bit followed by the almost ambient waves towards the end were great. Did I imagine the like super low frequency at the very end? You could barely hear it through the monitors, but that’s what was cool about it. It was a little extra bit that kept me listening through until the mix completely faded.
I like the concept you’re going for, especially with the vocals. Reminds me a bit of the Strokes, but the rest of the track has an accessible popular feel. Maybe try to balance them in the mix but keep the same timbre. Or perhaps when the chorus vocals come in, EQ them differently than in the verse. Definitely needs some mixing, either record the vocals again or see if some minor compression fixes the issues with dynamics. Sometimes the piano comes through a bit harsh when going in to the upper register -compression might help there or just take a look at the velocity parameters if you played the parts in? Great job though, I like where it’s going!
